Cray Launches Hadoop package for the XC30 supercomputer


Supercomputers are typically used for science and engineering. Software and application was designed specifically for him. But this time Cray Inc.. intends to run software that is normally used for processing big data Apache Hadoop on supercomputers.

To that end, recently unveiled a package Cray framework to help users deploy and run Apache Hadoop on Cray supercomputers XC30.


As said by the Cray in its press release, the package Cray Framework for Performance Pack for Hadoop and Hadoop will improve the efficiency and performance of the Cray XC30 for users who implement the Scientific Hadoop Big Data environments. This package is suitable for a user or organization that requires alignment between science, computing, and data-intensive workloads. This package also provides Hadoop MapReduce programming utility is a Java-based systems as a complement of the XC30 Cray Cray Programming Environment.
The initial release for Cray Cray Framework for Hadoop and Hadoop Performance Pack is available for free download, including configuration documentation for Apache Hadoop.
Cray supercomputer XC30 launched last year and is now used in the system Piz Daint in Switzerland. The fastest supercomputer in the world to-6 according to the Top500 list.
